Why We're Proud to Join the B Corp Community

Written by Katerina Cookson | Apr 1, 2021 6:09:35 PM

Ethelo is about making better decisions together, and we’re in good company.

Today we’re proud to announce that we are now a certified B Corporation - joining a growing movement of 3,500 innovators and change-makers.

B Corps are businesses that are verified to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Alongside the likes of Patagonia, Kickstarter, Apolitical and Rhiza Capital, we’re excited to be part of a global community that shares an ambition to use business as a force for good.

For Ethelo, the certification reflects our commitment to diverse and inclusive hiring practices, a low environmental footprint, and transparent corporate governance. But it also represents something a little bit deeper.

So why else are we proud to be a B Corp?

Because now is the time to tackle issues together.

The Skoll Foundation, which awarded B Lab with the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, got right to the heart what B Corp and Ethelo are all about when they said that "complex and interconnected issues demands unified action on an unprecedented scale". Our founder, John Richardson, started Ethelo because he knew that only collective action could solve some of our most challenging societal issues. This is a guiding principle for our products and services, our partners, and our team.

The problem was that there didn’t seem to be a fair or transparent way to make the very decisions that would lead to action.

It turns out that there is a way – by using technology to find common ground among many diverse voices.

In 2020, we’ve seen how collective action and collective decision-making can move the dial on issues like climate change, anti-racism, and building back better from COVID-19. And we’ve also seen how important it is to be able to participate in democracy across distances.

So, how far can we move that dial when 3,500 businesses with a mission for environmental and social change work together? Being a certified B Corporation means that we're part of an impact-driven global collective working to inspire a shift to a more sustainable, inclusive future.

Because our partners boost our mission.

And like this global network that we’re now learning alongside, the local people and partners we work with are just as committed to positive transformation on the ground. That’s why we want to recognize them as a big part of this win, too. They encourage us to do better and be better, and in turn we’re encouraging them to continue to support B Corp businesses.

After all, to get to truly transformative change, we'll need the help of governments and civil society working together with businesses and entrepreneurs like those in the B Corp network.

Because this is just the beginning.

Large or small, every single B Corp has a positive impact on the world, and we’re humbled to be able to help this global community grow a little bit larger.

For now, we’ll continue to improve on our high social and environmental standards while empowering communities to find common ground on their most contentious issues.

As Ethelo continues to grow and partner with aligned organizations, we look forward to working with those who share these goals.

We’re proud to be a B Corp, and we’re in good company.
